Student Vox pop

It is now more than two months since Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman assumed the stewardship of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), with the welfare of students among the priorities of his administration. To this end, the FULafia Bulletin interviewed some students of the University on their expectations from Abdul Rahman. Below are the opinions of the students interviewed. Enjoy reading!
Comrade Ibrahim Salihu, member of Students Representative Council (FULafia): “So far, so good, this is a vice-chancellor who considers himself as a father to all students because within this short period when he became the vice-chancellor, we have seen significant changes in terms of security of life and property in the campus. We are happy with his principles. For him to come out and lead us during a recently held sanitation exercise is commendable. I appeal to him to make the exercise a monthly activity as he promised when he interacted with us recently.
Blessing Ngozi Stephen, 200-Level student in French Department: Professor Abdulrahman as a humble vice-chancellor, especially when he led us at the recent sanitation exercise. He is trying his best, for example, in my department, things are changing for the better.
Victor Favour Choima, French Department: l would like the sanitation exercise to continue because it preaches togetherness. We get to know our staff. The surrounding and the toilet at the hostels are now been taken care of, unlike before when there was no water and everywhere looked dirty and dry.
Awo Thomas, a 200-Level student of Sociology Department: I am very impressed with Prof. Abdul Rahman when recently he granted approval to some students who applied for scholarship. The matriculation ceremony was done without delay and security has been improved where today you hardly hear stealing of handset, computers and so on in our campuses. However, I appeal to the vice-chancellor to introduce campus radio to enable students air their views like it is done in other universities as doing so will enhance students relationship with the management.
Anita Anivor, French Department: I am happy with the new vice-chancellor, especially in the area of electricity. There’s constant supply of power at the hostel. But I appeal to the vice-chancellor to consider building recreation centres at the University premises for students relaxation.
Comrade Musa Ari Gwaska, Director of Transport, SRC: I think the vice-chancellor actually works on the path the students want because he takes care of the students welfare, he is sociable that is why when we see him we chant: Sarkin wanka. Most importantly, he is someone who hears our cries. I want him to continue with that synergistic approach and we shall progress together. Yet, I want to call for the introduction of intra campus shuttles to enhance movement of students from the Take-off Site Campus to the Permanent Site Campus.
