Faculty of Clinical Science

About Us
The Faculty of Clinical Sciences was approved as one of the first sets of Faculties in the College of Medicine by the senate of the Federal University of Lafia, in 2014, though only activated in 2023 with the appointment of Professor Ishaku Ara Bako as the pioneer and current Dean of the Faculty. The main thrust of the faculty is to provide clinical training for medical (MBBS) students in their fourth to sixth years, clinical and community services and conduct research. The Faculty of Clinical Science provides clinical training through sequence of clinical postings, to enable the students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become highly competent medical doctors who are able to practice at the different levels of the health system: primary, secondary, and tertiary level of care. The faculty works closely with the respective departments in the Teaching Hospital and to ensure this is done seamlessly, we have extracted an understanding with the hospital for joint headships of the respective departments.
The departments in the faculty are also involved in providing support for degree programs in other faculties such as Bachelor Nursing Science, Bachelor Medical Laboratory Science and Bachelor Radiography programmes. At full take off of the Teaching Hospital, we will ensure effective and efficient synergy between the clinical training of the MBBS students and the residency training programmes of the Hospital. The faculty will hopefully, provide the majority of clinical consultant staff of the hospital. There will also be synergy in the utilization of facilities in both the College of Medine and the Hospital, utilization of resident Doctors in Medical students training and joint research grantsmanship. The faculty future plans include the mounting of postgraduate programmes (MSc & PhD) as well as short courses in clinical sciences.
