About Us
The Department of Anatomy was established as one of two Departments in the College of Medicine at Federal University of Lafia in the year 2016.
The Department is housed at the take-off site of the University along Markurdi road in Lafia, Nasarawa State Nigeria.
It currently has more than two hundred and fifty (250) students in the BSc. Anatomy program and teaches over four hundred (400) students in the MB, BS, Nursing, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science and BSc. Physiology programs.
The Department offers courses in cell biology, history, embryology, neuroanatomy, gross anatomy, forensic anatomy, Museum and mortuary sciences, developmental mechanics, radiological anatomy, microscopy, biological anthropology and many more.
We hope to distinguish ourselves by providing a good learning-centered environment which integrates teaching, research, entrepreneurship, service provision as well as extra-curricular activities, thus, preparing students for responsible citizenship as well as productive careers.
The Major activities of the Department include:
1. Teaching and Research in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the department and other related departments and programmes
2. Community service including embalming and mortuary services
3. Generation of revenue through activities like embalming, bone recovery etc
4. Maintenance of Anatomy Museum for historical and educational purposes
5. Training of staff and students in various technical and administrative capacities

Our goals
The goal of the Department is to produce graduates of Anatomy that:
1. Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the various aspects of Anatomy so as to provide a solid foundation for the correlation of structure with function in order to be able to contribute positively to research and total patient care.
2. Can apply knowledge and skill to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in Anatomy and its applications to provision of relevant applied anatomical and health services.
3. Appreciate the expediency of Anatomy in industrial, economic, environmental, health and social context.

Undergraduate Degree in Anatomical Sciences.
4 - year program with classified degree.
Graduates can progress through Post-graduate Diploma, Masters Degree and PhD
Graduates can use the Degree to gain entrance into the MB, BS program

HOD's profile
The current Ag. Head of Department is Dr Abdulmumuni Ahmed Lawal. He has served as a Lecturer in Anatomy Department of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 2005 through 2018 before being employed in Federal University of Lafia since 2018 until date.
He has an MB,BS (2003) and MSc Anatomy (2015) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Currently he is enrolled in a PhD program in the same University.
He had held various administrative positions in Anatomy Departments of both Universities as well as being members of various committees.
His research interest is in Neuroanatomy.
His scholarly publications are on stroke and related issues of public health concern.
A muslim, married with children, he is amiable, approachable and indulges in board games as past time. He enjoys travelling.
