“In our advocacy and campaign for inclusion and mainstreaming of People With Disabilities(PWDs), the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia(FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman stands out as a harbinger of hope for this marginalized class. His effort to foster equal opportunities through disability inclusive recruitment processes, has sent a loud message that people with disabilities are not just valued but are also capable contributors to university community and the nation at large.
“Deserving of applause too was how this finest university Don went far to employ an official Sign Language Interpreter for the university, making a history for FULafia as the only tertiary institution in Nasarawa State to have engaged the service of an interpreter.
“What is sacrosanct is reminding ourselves that beyond clapping and praising him, we must encourage others to follow suit. Our voices for advocacy of true inclusion and equal employment opportunities for PWDs must be intensified to reach every length and breadth of the state.
