Osana of Keana to FULafia staff: Shun sycophancy, advise vice-chancellor honestly
His Royal Highness, the Osana of Keana, Alhaji Abdullahi Amegwa Agbo III, has called on the staff of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to shun sycophancy and respect rules governing conducts in the institution.
“Honestly advise the vice-chancellor and shun sycophancy,” he said.
The royal father made his call when the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, visited him at his palace in Keana on Tuesday.
Alhaji Agbo III said that that “systems work better and efficiently if rules governing them are obeyed,” calling on the officials of the university to be honest in the discharge of their responsibilities.”
He, particularly, called on the principal officers to cooperate with the vice-chancellor, whose appointment was recently made by the Governing Council of FULafia.
While congratulating the new vice-chancellor, the Osana of Keana said: “See your appointment as a test of your faith by Allah, be mindful of your responsibilities and obey Allah’s commandments.”
He promised that his emirate would cooperate with Abdul Rahman, who made the visit to Keana his first in the long list of notable traditional rulers to be visited in Nasarawa State.
Agbo III said: “We will pray for your success and I urge to work closely, peacefully and harmoniously with your colleagues.”
Earlier, in his speech, the vice-chancellor thanked the royal father for his support and prayers for him, saying: “He started supporting me even before I came into office as the vice-chancellor.”
He appealed to the natural ruler to further support him “by not listening to the cries of some of our staff who may run to you to appeal to you to intervene on their behalf on matters bordering on discipline and other administrative matters in the university.”
He said that “FULafia belongs to all of us but we must allow rules to govern our conducts and how we discharge functions in the university.”
Those who accompanied the vice-chancellor on his visit included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idris Amali, Registrar, Dr Abubakar Mamuda, Bursar, Daniel Wilson, Librarian, Abiodun Iyioro.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of gift of kola nuts by Abdul Rahman to the Osana of Keana who, in return, gave the vice-chancellor a bag of the famous and highly nutritious Keana salt.
