Let’s work for progress of our University, says FULafia V-C

As universities’ lecturers called of their eight months old strike, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called on staff of the University to work hard.

Abdul Rahman made the call during an interactive meeting with officials of the Federal University of Lafia chapters of the Academic Staff Union of University, (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities o (SSANU) and National Association Academic Technologists (NAAT).

The meeting, which also had in attendance principal officers, deans and directors, was called to assess the situation on both of FULafia campuses preparatory to resumption of academic activities.

He appreciated the leadership of the unions and workers for their cooperation with the management before, during and even after the strike was called off, saying that their contributions was not taken for granted.

The vice-chancellor requested the unions’ leaders to urge their member to get ready for work now that academic activities would resume, saying that the management would improve on the state of welfare of staff and students.

He, however, cautioned those who would want to draw the system backwards, saying that his administration would not tolerate such.

Abdul Rahman said: “If you are not ready to work, the system will work, for there are some instruments put in place to work for the benefit of everybody as well as the University.”

The vice-chancellor said that he had directed the appraisal committee to fast track issues relating to appraisals of staff to enable those due for promotion and step increment benefit without delay.

He also said that he had directed the director of health services to sensitise members of the University on stress management and other health related issues to help staff deal with, or overcome some of, the challenges that could affect their performance in their workplace.

“Your health is the most important thing, we would encourage you to take care of it,” he said.

Abdul Rahman disclosed that the University had put in place some measures to take care of security of lives and property of both staff and students, calling on members of the University community to cooperate with the security personnel to achieve maximum results.

In their separate responses, the Secretary, NAAT, Mrs. Ngunan Patience Wombo, Chairman, SSANU, Mr Daniel Dajen and Chairman, ASUU, Dr. Abdullahi Al-Amin, appreciated the vice-chancellor for his good leadership style, understanding and cooperation.

They promised to work together as a team for development of the University.

They assured the vice-chancellor that members of the unions were ready to work harder now that school has reopened.
