Know and work with core values of FULafia, Abdul Rahman charges staff

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has declared open a three-day workshop on quality assurance, saying “that it is important to do things right and at the right time.”
According to Abdul Rahman, the training on quality assurance was organised to make the staff proactive by “making sure that standards are maintained in our activities.”
The theme of the training was: “Effective Service Delivery Through Quality Assurance.”
He added that the main “focus for this training is based on the core values of the Federal University of Lafia, namely, integrity, innovation and excellence.”
He advised staff to imbibe lessons of the core values of the University, saying: “They are not just there for us to see or read them but the core values are messages for us to know, understand and work with them to make our University better.
“That is why activities of the school are being carried our within the context of our core values of integrity, innovation and excellence.”
Stressing the importance of the training to the administration of the University, Abdul Rahman said that “if you want innovation, there must be quality in place, if you need excellence, there must be quality in place.”
On how to achieve quality in activities of the University, Abdul Rahman said: “There is the need not only to establishment the unit called “Quality Assurance Unit” but also to make people aware of its existence, and help the unit in all it does.”
The Deputy Registrar and Head, Quality Assurance Unit, Dr. Abubakar H. Ahmed II, in his speech, stated that “the workshop is important to achieve the goal of making the University among the best in Africa.”
The lead consultant for the training and Chairman, Association of Quality Assurance and Productivity Professionals, Prof. Adai Sooliman Ibrahim, from the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, thanked the vice-chancellor for organising the training with a view to upgrading the level of service delivery in the University.
He said: “Quality assurance is a way of preventing mistakes and defects and avoiding problems when delivering products or services to customers. It is a part of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled.”
Sooliman emphasised the need for staff of FULafia to work within the context of the core values of the University, saying that workers need to make their workplace enjoyable credible.
Participants, during the training, asked questions with appropriate answers given to them.
Comments and observations were also made and welcomed by the facilitators of the training.
Ending his speech, Sooliman said: “No matter how excellent something is, you can always improve quality.”
