FULafia V-C calls for ASUU support

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called for support from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FULafia Branch, saying that such “necessary to take the University to enviable heights.”
Abdul Rahman made the call when the newly elected officials of the Union paid him a familiarisation visit on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in his office.
He was optimistic that with the new leaders in place, “the University will witness unprecedented development.”
The vice-chancellor appreciated the Union’s contribution to the administration of the University, calling on the new ASUU to sustain the gesture.
The vice-chancellor promised to prioritise promotion of staff of the University, appealing to workers to be dedicated to their work.
He also promised to give priority to matters of staff welfare so as to enhance productivity in the University, adding that plans were underway to restructure the over 50 committees in the institution for improved performance.
He pointed out that the Committee System in FULafia was adopted for the effective and efficient running of the University.
He said that his doors were open for the new leaders to visit and advise him on how to better administer the University.
Earlier, the new leaders of the ASUU led by the Chairman, Dr. Sunday Orinya, of the Department of Political Science, stated that the purpose of their visit to the vice-chancellor was to introduce themselves to him and appreciate his leadership style which he described as “inclusive and dynamic.”
The new ASUU chairman promised to adopt a non-confrontational approach to issues affecting members of the Union to keep harmony in the University.
At the end of the visit, a minute silence was observed in memory of the late Dr. Okwori, a lecturer in the Economics Department, who passed away recently.
