The Civil Society Coalition for Transparency and Good Governance (CSCTGG) has, recently, conferred its highest award on the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman.

The award was bestowed on Abdul Rahman in recognition of his transparent leadership style and students empowerment initiatives.

The award, tagged: “Most Dedicated and People-Oriented Vice-Chancellor,” was presented to Abdul Rahman by the CSCTGG Convener, Comrade Victor Udoh, and one other executive of the group, who paid him a courtesy call at his office in Lafia.

While presenting the award to Abdul Rahman, Comrade Victor Udoh said that they had closely studied the administration of the vice-chancellor in the past four years and they were satisfied by his level of transparency, performances and leadership qualities.

The convener informed the vice-chancellor of the activities of CSCTGG which, he said, included promoting good governance, providing leadership training to those in positions of authority, contributing positively in the society and complimenting government’s efforts on education.

He said that the University’s student entrepreneurial scheme, the mentorship advocacy as well as the student leadership programmes introduced by Abdul Rahman would provide the students with many opportunities during their stay in the University and after graduation.

The convener said that there were many things to learn from Abdul Rahman, whom, he said, has made “leadership looks so simple by providing selfless service to humanity” and contributing to students and youths welfare.

He said: “We see Abdul Rahman as an accomplished leader and academic icon who has brought unprecedented changes to FULafia, touched the lives of our students and guided them properly.”

Receiving the award, Abdul Rahman, said: “The University’s core values, namely, Integrity, Innovation and Excellence were behind my success. I respond to them very strictly.”

As usual, the vice-chancellor dedicated the award to the University community, saying that in FULafia, “we work collectively, everyone here, including staff and students, are part of the decision making process.”

He challenged the civil society’s leaders to improve on their advocacy, stressing that the nation and the world would be a good place to live if “we all play our parts dutifully.”

The convener was accompanied on the visit by Comrade Success Uko, the Executive Director of the CSCTGG.
