FULafia trains staff of environmental safety

The Staff Productivity Promotion Unit (SPPU) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), recently, organised a two-day training programme for selected personnel from the Directorate of Environmental Safety (DES).
The workshop aimed to enhance the staff’s knowledge and skills in addressing current security and environmental challenges within the institution.
The event was held at the MIS Multipurpose Hall, the Permanent Site Campus of the University.
Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, underscored the vital roles played by the security and environmental safety sectors on campus.
Representing Abdul Rahman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Aleruchi Chuku, said that the training was designed to improve performance of the sectors’ personnel, foster teamwork and ensure the safety of the University community.
Abdul Rahman highlighted the importance of collective efforts in protecting lives and property on campus.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Becky M. Kajo, the Head of SPPU, emphasised the critical roles of DES personnel, saying that they provide the initial point of contact for individuals entering the University.
She highlighted the significance of effective communication in security operations, stressing the high expectations placed on the staff to safeguard the lives and property of everyone in the university.
The training sessions covered various topics, including: “Campus Crime Prevention (A Focus on Cultism and Drug Abuse)” presented by Prof. George A. Genyi, “Access Control Principles, Entry Protocols, and Searches” presented by Mr. Orim Edward, and “Report Writing and Documentation” presented by Mr. Dannis Ashipu.
The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, providing opportunities for participants to engage in discussions and enhance their understanding of and preparedness for their work.
