The Staff Promotion and Productivity Unit (SPPU) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has, recently, organised a two-day training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the University’s staff.
Held at the Mallam Adamu Adamu Multi-Purpose Hall and Office Complex, Permanent Site Campus, the programme aimed to educate staff on the fundamentals of AI and its applications in academia and administration.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Professor Aleruchi Chukwu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, commended the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, FULafia, for spearheading the initiative.
Abdul Rahman emphasised that the training was designed to bridge the knowledge gap among especially academics who increasingly rely on AI in their academic work.
The training featured several expert presentations with Professor Aleruchi Chukwu delivering a paper on “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence: Definitions and Misconceptions.”
Dr. Dlama Joseph Zira, the Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, discussed “AI and Human Intelligence: Strengths and Weaknesses,” while Dr. Falake discussed “Ethics in Artificial Intelligence” and “AI and Management Information Systems.”
In her welcome address, the Head of SPPU, Mrs. Becky Kajo, expressed her gratitude to the vice-chancellor for supporting the unit in organising the training.
She encouraged participants to take full advantage of the knowledge gained and apply same in their respective roles.
