The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has been presented with an ‘Award of Excellence’ by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of FULafia.
The award was presented to him in recognition of his selflessness and commitment to the task of development of the University.
The SRC officials, particularly, praised the vice-chancellor for his efforts to transform FULafia to become the best university in the world, through some outstanding programmes he initiated since his assumption of office as the third substantive vice-chancellor of the University.
The award, tagged: ‘’Mr. Integrity, a Catalyst for Positive Change,” was presented to Prof. Abdul Rahman at his office by the Director of Linkages and Advancement, Prof. Malam Al-Bishak, who led the SRC executives to the vice-chancellor on a courtesy call.
Al-Bishak told Abdul Rahman that “the students deemed it fit to award you because of your untiring commitment to give life to the core values of the University, innovation, integrity and excellence.”
The SRC President, Comrade Yusuf Mustapha Muhammed, said that the SRC closely studied the administration of the vice-chancellor since his assumption of office and the body was satisfied by his performance and achievements.
He said that the monthly sanitation exercise, students welfare and priorities, the internship and linkages service as well as the students mentorship programmes introduced by Abdul Rahman would provide the students with many opportunities during their stay in the University and after graduation.
The union leader said that there were many things that students could learn from Abdul Rahman, whom, he said, has demonstrated “exemplary leadership” and brought tremendous changes to FULafia.
Receiving the award, Abdul Rahman thanked the SRC and dedicated the award to the entire students of FULafia.
Abdul Rahman commended the students for their good conduct in the University, saying that their contributions and support to him have helped to do the things “I was able achieve thus far.”
He challenged students to be law abiding, saying: “The world would be a good place to live if we all play our parts dutifully.”
Those who accompanied Prof. Al-Bishak to the vice-chancellor’s office were the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr. H.I Imam, Comrade Ibrahim Salihu, SRC’s Chief Security Officer; Comrade Musa Ari Gwaska, Director of Transport and Comrade Samson Olayinka, Director of Social.
