FUGA Vice-Chancellor, Maimuna, highlights role of women in agriculture

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Gashua (FUGA), Professor Maimuna Waziri, has commended the role women play in agricultural development process.
Specifically, Maimuna praised her female colleagues for playing vital roles in the areas of agricultural research and planning.
Maimuna spoke during the presentation of a book titled: “Reinventing African Development Through Sustainable Agricultural and Human Development,” written in honour of Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia).
The event took place at the Adamu Adamu lecture hall situated in the Permanent Site Campus of the University.
Prof. Maimuna, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, said she was delighted for the recognition given to her by the management of FULafia, especially Shehu Abdul Rahman, whom she described as an icon in the nation’s agricultural sector.
She said: “Abdul Rahman is an excellent and humble scholar and administrator whose leadership style shows recognition for the womenfolk just as he created enabling environment for women to contribute their quota to our nation’s agricultural sector.”
Professor Maimuna Waziri said that the involvement of women in the agricultural sector promotes inclusiveness in the sector and raise the quality of life among the womenfolk.
She pointed out that the role of women cannot be overemphasised in the assessment of agricultural development, saying: “Women are engaged as farmers, researchers, planners, business partners in the field of agriculture.”
Maimuna Waziri, therefore, called on women to add more value to the global agricultural sector.
In his speech, the FULafia vice-chancellor said that the purpose of the event was not to recognise him alone but to also acknowledge and honour some personalities who had supported him during his tenure as the pioneer vice-chancellor of Federal University, Gashua.
He said to those people: “Your sacrifice is not a waste. A day of reward is coming.”
Abdul Rahman pointed out that gender sensitivity would always be one of his strategic tools in promoting agricultural activities and human development.
He promised to always support for the betterment of the country.
He thanked people for being part of the occasion, especially the editors of the book, its contributors and organisers of the event.
