Advance Social Work Knowledge:
- To advance social work knowledge through research, scholarship, and innovation, addressing key social issues and challenges such as poverty, inequality, discrimination, and oppression.
Empower Students:
- To empower students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to excel in social work practice, preparing them for careers as social workers, community organizers, policy analysts, or advocates.
Promote Social Justice:
- To promote social justice, human rights, and community well-being through advocacy, activism, and collaborative efforts with individuals, families, communities, and organizations.
Foster Collaboration:
- To foster interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships within the university and with external stakeholders, leveraging diverse expertise to address complex social issues and drive positive social change.

Undergraduate Programs:
Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.):
- Description: A comprehensive program offering courses in social work practice, human behavior, social policy, and research methods, preparing students for entry-level positions in social work practice or for advanced study in social work.
- Curriculum may include: Social Work Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups; Social Welfare Policy and Services; Human Behavior in the Social Environment; Research Methods in Social Work.
Graduate Programs:
Master of Social Work (M.S.W.):
- Description: A graduate-level program providing advanced study in social work practice, with opportunities for specialization in areas such as clinical social work, community organizing, or social policy. This program prepares students for professional licensure and leadership roles in social work practice, administration, or advocacy.
- Curriculum may include: Advanced Social Work Practice; Social Policy Analysis and Advocacy; Clinical Assessment and Intervention; Field Education and Supervision.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work:
- Description: A doctoral program designed for students interested in pursuing advanced research and scholarship in social work. This program typically involves coursework, comprehensive exams, dissertation research, and teaching experience, preparing students for leadership roles in academia, research institutions, or policy organizations.
- Curriculum may include: Advanced Seminars in Social Work Research; Dissertation Research and Writing; Teaching Practicum.

HOD's profile
Dr. Edward Dauda Ibrahim Anzaku holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from the University of Jos, Nigeria. He attended several other short-term courses in areas of human capital development and is competent in community organising, and Development, Human resource mobilization and management, Participatory Learning and Action, Participatory approaches for self-assessment and development, Project design and proposal writing, peace building and Conflict management, quality assurance, computer applications, Social Standards, Research and publication, Counselling and Rehabilitation, among others. He worked as a development worker for 29years where he empowered individuals, groups, and communities, through capacity building for the actualisation of self-help. He took up lecturing job first, with the Nasarawa State Polytechnic and currently with Federal University of Lafia. He held several positions within the Department before his appointment as the Ag. Head of Department. Among positions held by Dr. Anzaku before now were Coordinator, Social Work programme under the Department of Sociology, Coordinator BSc Part-time Social Work, Departmental Coordinator Postgraduate programmes, Level adviser, Coordinator, field work visits and practicum. Dr. Edward Dauda Ibrahim Anzaku is currently a senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Work, Federal University of Lafia. He is widely traveled, happily married, and the union is blessed with four children.
