Philosophy of the Faculty:
The philosophy of Faculty of Social Sciences mirrors that of the University. This is encapsulated in the ideals of:
(i) comprehensive education
(ii) local relevance of training and
(iii) functionality of research and community service.
‘Comprehensive education’ implies that education must be of the right quality and scope to impact positively on development; ‘local relevance of training’ underscores the need to make training relevant to the development needs of the host-region and the country at large; 'functionality of research and community service’ emphasizes the need to ensure that such activities yield impactful outcomes capable of solving societal problems. In line with the organizational philosophy of FULafia, the Faculty is committed to the pursuit of quality education, research and development. These tenets are encapsulated in the tripartite motto of the University: Integrity, Innovation and Excellence.

I warmly welcome you to the Faculty of Social Sciences as I also congratulate you on your hardwork and success in being admitted into the prestigious Federal University of Lafia, where dreams come true. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty where humanity is at the heart of our search for knowledge to deepen understanding of what we do. The diversity of the faculty reflects in its programmes that are woven around the idea that our efforts will contribute to improving our world through enhanced understanding of each other and the dynamism of humanity. Whatever is your programme choice, you made an excellent decision in choosing FUlafia to pursue your dream. Our Faculty is looking forward to this journey with you in its most successful and seamless manner. We are confident that you will not only enjoy the journey; it will remain one of the most invaluable in your life experiences. With the hardwork that brought you to your matriculation, we invite you to commit to more hardwork required for your personal growth here. As you commence your university journey, know that you are in charge of your destiny hence you must manage in the most efficient way your time and other resources. Be close to your handbook and course outlines as pall bearers of your academic trip. Explore your passion and interests by taking advantage of the rich diversity of our campuses through meaningful student engagements. Explore courses that intrigue you and work out of your comfort zone, leverage your curiosity and even challenge pre-set assumptions. In this way, you can meet your passions, shape your perspectives and widen your horizon.
Our interest in your academic success is balanced with our concern for your mental health and wellbeing. Our desire is to empower you to be innovative leaders though teaching and learning, research and community services. We shall position you to deal with fundamental challenges of our complex world to create a more humane and sustainable and generous world.
