Vision: Our vision is to be a premier center of excellence in geological education, research, and exploration, driving discoveries and solutions to address global challenges in Earth sciences, environmental sustainability, and natural resource management. Mission Statement: The Department of Geology at Federal University of Lafia is committed to excellence in education, research, and service. Our mission is to provide high-quality education in geology, conduct cutting-edge research, and promote the application of geological knowledge to address pressing issues in resource exploration, environmental management, and hazard mitigation. Aims and Objectives: Advance Education: - To provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education in geology, covering fundamental principles, applied techniques, and emerging trends in Earth sciences. Promote Research: - To conduct innovative research that advances our understanding of Earth's processes, history, and resources, and addresses challenges related to energy exploration, environmental sustainability, and geological hazards. Foster Collaboration: - To foster collaboration and partnerships with academic institutions, industry partners, government agencies, and international organizations to promote interdisciplinary research and technology transfer in the field of geology. Empower Students: - To empower students to become skilled and ethical geologists capable of critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication in diverse professional settings, including resource exploration, environmental consulting, geological engineering, and academia.
Programmes
Programs: Undergraduate Programs: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geology: - Description: A comprehensive program providing students with a strong foundation in geological principles, field techniques, and laboratory skills. - Curriculum may include: Mineralogy, Petrology, Structural Geology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Geophysics, Field Mapping. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geological Engineering: - Description: A specialized program focusing on the application of geological principles to engineering projects, such as resource exploration, site characterization, and geotechnical engineering. - Curriculum may include: Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geology, Geophysical Methods. Graduate Programs: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geology: - Description: A graduate-level program offering advanced coursework and research opportunities in specialized areas of geology. - Curriculum may include: Advanced Petrology, Geophysical Exploration, Basin Analysis, Paleontology, Geochronology, Thesis or Project. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Geology: - Description: A doctoral program designed for students interested in conducting original research and making significant contributions to the field of geology. - Curriculum may include: Advanced Research Seminars, Dissertation Research, Teaching Experience, Professional Development.
