Department of Building

Building is one of the Ten (10) Departments that makes up the Faculty of Environmental Design. It was established in January, 2022. The Pioneer Head of Department is Bldr. Dr Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan. The courses run by the Department provide tuition in the areas of Construction Technology, Construction Management, Building Material Science, Structures, Services in Building and Facilities Management. The undergraduate programme is for five years duration leading to the award of Bachelor’s degree in Building. The philosophy underlying Building Education is to develop and advance the Science and practices of building technology and construction management. It is important to emphasise that building technology involves building assembly/construction techniques, building construction process in the areas of site management, contract management, financial management, building production and maintenance Building graduates are therefore expected to devote substantial part of their lives to solving national problems on how to make Nigeria technologically and truly independent and break new grounds in all aspects of building techniques and processes

Bldr Dr Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan. Born on 6th February 1972 in Doma, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. holds a bachelor degree in Building, Master of Science degree in Construction Technology and a PhD degree in Civil Engineering (Structure and Materials). Currently a researcher and consultant, as well as a management and board member of the Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Design and Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS), Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State. Have served as a Director in acting capacity (October, 2010 – December, 2010) and as a Deputy Director (2010–2017), acting Head of Department (December 2016) and Postgraduate Programme Coordinator (2016 – 2019). He is currently the Head of the Department of Building and the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design. With over 22 years of boardroom and 14 years of management experience, he has also served as the chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Niger state chapter, Chairman of the postgraduate examination committee (School of Environmental Technology, FUT Minna), Council member of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Niger State representative of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, Member of the management board of the Department of Building; School of Environmental Technology Board and Postgraduate Board of the School of Environmental Technology, Federal University of Technology Minna. He has also served as the acting Director of the University Consultancy Unit (FUTMIN Ventures) and as such was a member of the University Management Board. He has also served as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Npower-CORBON Artisans training. He has a wealth of experience in monitoring quality both in post-secondary and higher education institutions. Throughout his service in the University, He has been a member of the following boards/committees: Strategic Planning Committee of the Department of Building; the Committee on the Preparation of the Departmental Academic Brief; the Committee on Anti-Social Activities on Campus; the Logistic Sub-committee for the 2016 School of Environmental Technology Conference (SETIC 2016); and the Senate Devolved Authorities: Ambiguity Clearing Committee and a host of others.
