Vision: Our vision is to be a leading center of excellence in English education, research, and cultural engagement, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of language and literature to enrich lives, inspire creativity, and promote social justice. Mission Statement: The Department of English at Federal University of Lafia is committed to excellence in education, research, and service. Our mission is to provide high-quality instruction in English language and literature, conduct innovative research that advances knowledge in the field, and promote the value of language and literature in fostering empathy, understanding, and social change. Aims and Objectives: Advance Education: - To provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education in English language, literature, and culture, covering foundational principles, critical theories, and literary traditions from diverse historical periods and geographical regions. Promote Research: - To conduct innovative research that advances our understanding of language, literature, and cultural expression, addressing questions of identity, power, representation, and social justice. Foster Collaboration: - To foster collaboration and partnerships with academic institutions, cultural organizations, and community groups to promote interdisciplinary research, cultural exchange, and public engagement in English studies. Empower Students: - To empower students to become skilled readers, writers, and critical thinkers capable of engaging with diverse texts, perspectives, and cultural contexts, and applying their knowledge and skills to real-world challenges.
Programmes
    Programmes: Undergraduate Programs: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English: - Description: A comprehensive program providing students with a strong foundation in English language, literature, and cultural studies. - Curriculum may include: British Literature, American Literature, World Literature, Literary Theory, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English with a concentration in Creative Writing: - Description: A specialized program focusing on the theory and practice of creative writing, including fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and drama. - Curriculum may include: Creative Writing Workshops, Writing for Publication, Literary Editing, Literature of the Creative Imagination. Graduate Programs: Master of Arts (M.A.) in English: - Description: A graduate-level program offering advanced coursework and research opportunities in English language, literature, and cultural studies. - Curriculum may include: Advanced Literary Analysis, Critical Theory, Research Methods, Thesis or Project. Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Creative Writing: - Description: A terminal degree program designed for aspiring writers seeking to develop their craft and pursue careers in creative writing. - Curriculum may include: Advanced Workshops in Fiction, Poetry, Nonfiction, Screenwriting, Thesis or Manuscript.
