Embrace teamwork to improve productivity, enjoins Abdul Rahman

The Vice-Chancellor, the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called on staff of the University to embrace the spirit of teamwork to improve their productivity.
The vice-chancellor stated that when he declared open a two-day training programme with the theme: “Sustainable Industrial/Labour Relations,” organised for union leaders, the Students Representative Council’s officials and other selected participants from the University.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Area Office, Lafia Office, took place at the Old Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus of FULafia.
Addressing the participants, Professor Abdul Rahman noted that relationships between and among the Management, staff, students, union leaders and their members could generate disagreement that could need problem-solving skills hence the need for the training.
Declaring the event open, Professor Abdul Rahman advised leaders at all levels to build relationships and networks that would help them to discharge their responsibilities and achieve their goals.
While appreciating the ITF for accepting to conduct the training for the participants, Abdul Rahman commended the organisation for its commitment to training students of the University and preparing them for the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
The vice-chancellor used the opportunity of the training to appreciate the leadership of all the unions in the University for the cordial relationship and support his administration has enjoyed since he assumed office.
He called on the participants to pay attention to the resource persons to acquire knowledge and skills that would improve the existing relationships with the Management.
In her welcome address, Mrs Helen Bello, the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head, Staff Productivity Promotion Unit (SPPU), thanked the vice-chancellor for the privilege to organised the training, saying the the training was apt and came at a time when Universities were experiencing unrest.
She said that industrial harmony amongst union leaders and stakeholders would create stability and productivity.
In her remarks, the Area Manager of, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mrs Phoebe K. Ochoche, appreciated the vice-chancellor for his zeal to empower staff through training and retraining.
She said that the ITF would continue to collaborate with the Management of the University in the staff development programme.
Resource persons at the training were Mrs Phoebe K. Ochoche, Area Manager, ITF, Lafia Office, Dr. Daniel Ewuga Esele and Executive Director, Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute, Lafia and Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State on Science and Technology, Mrs. Na’anpoe Swatshak, Head of Training ITF, and Mrs Bukola Julius, Training Development Officer ITF.
