About Us
The Federal University of Lafia established in 2011 is charged with the responsibility among other things to create or make its impact within the immediate environment and to extend it beyond the larger Nigerian State and beyond. The Federal University of Lafia has produced three Deputy Vice-Chancellors since it was established in 2011. The pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Martin Ogbe was appointed by Prof. Ekanem Braide, and served from 2015 to 2017. The second Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idris O. O. Amali was first appointed in June 2019 by the then Vice-Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Sanusi Liman’s led administration, and reappointed for second term by Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman in June 2021. The Tenure of Prof. Amali came to an end on the 6th of June, 2023. The present Vice- Chancellor Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman created three offices for Deputy Vice-Chancellors. He appointed Prof. Ali Is’haq Shugaba, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) who is among the three Deputy Vice-Chancellors who assumed office on the 7th of June, 2023. The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) is situated at the Take-Off Campus, along Obi Road, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Activities
• The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for all administrative matters. As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), he is responsible for supervision of all activities related to:
o Personnel issues (discipline, welfare and general management of human resources),
o Students discipline and welfare issues,
o Security, sanitation and safety issues
o Catering services and accommodation issues,
o Health services
o Legal issues
o Transport services
o General administrative matters

o Directorate of Sports • The Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Administration) also facilitates, supports and enhances opportunities for the University in order to engage in new and innovative entrepreneurship initiatives by assisting faculty, staff, students and administrators in the management and development of such projects.
• He supervises, directs and evaluates subordinate staff to ensure that administrative affairs, programs, goals and strategic missions have been achieved so as to effectively operate the administrative programs of the University.
• In conjunction with relevant organs of the University, the Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Administration) ensures the training and retraining of staff to ensure optimal performance.
• The Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Administration) attends to issues of complaints reported to the Vice-Chancellor, and such complaints include promotion matters and disciplinary issues.
• The Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Administration) also assists and advises the Vice-Chancellor on matters of:
o Facility Management (Works and Physical Planning)
o Support Services (Human Resource)
o Staff Welfare
o Student Affairs
o Registry
o Protocol and Public Relations

Below are the achievements recorded in the period under review:
• The Office works closely with the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the Senior Management Team (Principal Officers, Deans and Directors), towards delivering the University’s Strategic Plan.
• Submission of Initial Roadmap to the Vice-Chancellor
• Development of and submission of a detailed Situation Report (SITREP) to the Vice-Chancellor
• Submission of proposal for the creation of Directorate of Disability and Inclusive Services in the Federal University of Lafia
• Submission of Roles of Federal University of Lafia and Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital towards achieving the Strategic Plan (2023-2028) of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences
• Submission of Roles of Federal University of Lafia and Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital towards the smooth take-off of FULafia Teaching Hospital
• Submission of Committee Report on Rural Electrification Agency on Solar Power Plant Projects in FULafia
• Holding of meetings for the conduct of Student Union Government Election in the Federal University of Lafia
• Submission of proposal on the need for the establishment of Seminar/Conference/Workshop Coordinating Unit in the Federal University of Lafia
• Submission of report of Stakeholders Meeting held over the security concern in the neighbouring communities of the Federal University of Lafia
• Submission of report of meeting with University Library Staff
• Forwarding of request to organise sensitization programme for staff and students on “the meddling of staff/students in the electoral processes of student union government and other student-bodies elections”
• Submission of report of Strategic Meeting held with the Three University Based Unions (ASUU, SSANU and NAAT) held on Wednesday, 17th January, 2024
• Submission of proposal on the need to institute robust Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the Federal University of Lafia
• Organising of a one-day training on intelligence gathering and sharing for local Vigilante Groups of the Seven (7) neighbouring communities of the Federal University of Lafia: Gandu, Akunza, Mararaba, Bukan Kwato, Wakwa, Tudun Kauri, and Gimare.
• Submission of proposal for Mandatory Drug Test for students in the Federal University of Lafia
• Submission of proposal on the need to strengthen the SERVICOM Directorate in the Federal University of Lafia
• Construction of three water tank bases at entrances of: Al-Makura Halls, 300-Hundred Seat Auditorium, and MLS building, to curb urination and defecation behind buildings at the Take-Off Site; and also digging of a pit for dumping of refuse, which is burnt afterwards, at the take-off site of FULafia.
• Representing the Vice-Chancellor at various functions, within and outside FULafia.

 Welcome to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

The Federal University of Lafia is anchored on three basic Core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Innovation. As the administrative adviser to the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) analyses issues, problems, concerns, and trends to determine the best course of action, and makes appropriate recommendation(s) to the Vice-Chancellor.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) works closely with the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the Senior Management Team (Principal Officers, Deans and Directors), towards delivering the University’s Strategic Plan. Thus, the Successes of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Office cannot be singled out from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor due to the support role it plays.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Office derive its schedules from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for implementation. However, the core values of the University are being actualized through the execution of assigned schedules.

Furthermore, the Federal University of Lafia is committed to both staff and students’ welfare, teaching, research, and community service. We have zero-tolerance to examination malpractice, sharp practices, criminalities, and drug/substance abuse.
