The Directorate of Linkages and Advancement is the Unit of the University that is saddled with the responsibility of linking the University with the outside world via a paradigm shift in working with the university to identify, create and disseminate opportunities for mutual and strategic collaborations across disciplines and stakeholders; and to negotiate and implement partnerships for the overall standing and development of the University and its partners. The Directorate of Linkages and Advancement of the Federal University of Lafia, which was hitherto, known as “Advancement Office,” was the creation of the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University in 2014, with the objectives of promoting the image/vision of the University; marketing the University brand; sustaining harmonious relationship between the University and its Alumni; prospect for benefactors and enlist stakeholder support create a robust data base of the activities of the Directorate and friends of the University, among other relevant issues. This office started with three sections; the Alumni Relations, Communication and Marketing, and Prospects and Proposal sections respectively. Upon the assumption of office of the third Vice Chancellor of the University, in proactive Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman however, he came up with a robust blueprint, aimed at placing the varsity among the best five in the African sub region. To achieve his ambitiously tall but noble goal, the Vice Chancellor immediately embarked on novel approaches like the upgrading and restructuring of the former Advancement office, to its current enviable status in March 2021.
Improving the image/public standing of the university in local and international league tables, policy formation on international education, recruitment of international staff and students, development of international agreements, and promotion of the internationalization of the University. Attracting local and international support and mutual partnerships and collaborations in all areas of its endeavours Ensuring that the objectives of the University are met through all acceptable means possible.
Facilitate philanthropic support and investments from companies, foundations and stakeholders. Oversee university wide strategic partnerships and serve as first point of call for new collaborations or partnerships, enquiries, and proposals. Provide advice to the university and or, its organs, scaling up mutual relationships and benefits to the university. Provide strategic advice to the university on international matters. Serve as source of international linkages and collaborations with international universities, donors, public and private individuals, researchers, etc. Coordinates foreign visits by senior university staffs and inward visits by senior foreign delegates to FULafia. Manage students/staff exchange programs, visiting scholars schemes and fellowships. Organize orientation programs for incoming international students and for the students of FULafia going abroad on exchange programs. Develop and implement strategies for online visibility and related issues for FULafia. Facilitate opportunities for residence permits and visits for international students and delegates. Provide general information and advice to students on safety tips and relationship with host community Assist international students/staff in obtaining accommodation and other basic requirement
The Directorate’s activities are encapsulated in the tripartite motto of FULafia (Integrity, Innovation and Excellence)with a renewed commitment to achieving expansive and mutually beneficial relationships between FULafia and her friends; maximum exploitation of benefits of all partnerships for the sustainable development of the university, and Providing invaluable opportunities and support for students and Alumni members in various areas of pursuits.
