Be committed to your work, V-C Abdul Rahman urges Directorate of Works staff

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has advised staff of the Directorate of Works in the institution to be committed to their responsibilities.
Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman gave the advice during a recent meeting with the staff of the Directorate at the Directorate of Works Office, Take Off Site Campus, in Lafia.

The vice-chancellor said that the functions of the Directorate were central to the development of the University, calling on the staff to be disciplined and punctual.
Abdul Rahman noted with dismay the nonchallant attitude of staff of the Directorate, saying that, henceforth, the management would no longer tolerate indiscipline.
The vice-chancellor said: “The staff working in this Directorate must show discipline and seriousness in the discharge of their functions. You must operate within the rules and regulations governing the University.

Discipline, hard work, selflessness, commitment to duty are needed for the progress of this Directorate and the institution as a whole.”
The vice-chancellor said that we must, through the services offered by the staff in the Directorate of Works, own the environment we work in so as to improve it.
In his speech, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idris O. Amali, stressed the need to maintain clean environment ahead of the visit of the NUC accreditation committees, warning that the management would work closely with the works directorate to ensure success of accreditation exercise.
On his part, the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, called for a change of attitude from the staff, noting that activities of the Directorate, if properly undertaken, “would go along way in keeping the University environment clean, healthy and enjoyable for all of us.”
The Director, Directorate of Works, Engineer Agho Nosakhare, applauded Abdul Rahman for his foresight to reposition the Directorate, promising that his staff would work for sustenance and promotion of safe and clean environment.
The director, however, highlighted some challenges such as inadequate manpower and lack of adequate equipment, saying that “these challenges prevent us from effectively discharging our duties.”
Other people in attendance at the interactive session included the Bursar, Daniel Wilson, and University Librarian, Dr Abiodun Olaide Iyioro.
