The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has decentralised its monthly sanitation exercise, handing over its management to the faculties and directorates.
This is just as the University has launched its maiden sourvenirs produced by the Directorate of Advancement and Linkages (DL&A).
Under the new arrangement, faculties and directorates, headed by deans and directors, respectively, would, henceforth, supervise cleaning exercises in their areas of authority.
The decentralisation of the sanitation, an exercise which has become a source of pride for the University, was made known by Vice-Chancellor Shehu Abdul Rahman.
The occasion was the meeting ahead of the sanitation exercise for the month of October and the venue was the Central Administrative Block, Permanent Site Campus, FULafia.
During the meeting attended by staff from all departments in the University, cleaning materials, including moppers, cutlasses, brooms, detergents, e.t.c., were handed by the vice-chancellor to the deans to ensure effectiveness of the cleaning exercise around the school environment.
The vice-chancellor appreciated everyone present, saying that the “sanitation exercise has been moved from the central administration level to faculty and directorates levels so that students, lecturers and every staff member of the faculty can participate fully in the exercise.”
The vice-chancellor said that the school management would “always be there to support the faculties and directorates in the sanitation exercise and we shall also give an award to the best performing faculty or directorate in the University.”
The Chairperson, Campus Sanitation and Beautification Committee, Dr Comfort Ojoma Ukwela, thanked the vice-chancellor for his endless support for the sanitation exercise.
She also commended staff for always turning up for the exercise, saying that without them the exercise “won’t be successful.”
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the presentation of the Federal University of Lafia branded sourvenirs took place.
The sourvenirs, including t-shirt, face caps, towel, e.t.c., were presented by the Director, Linkages and Advancement (DL&A), Prof. Mallam Al-Bishak, who handed the items to the vice-chancellor and management staff.
Al-Bishak commended the vice-chancellor for creating the directorate, stating that among basic functions of the DL&A was to promote the University through the production of souvenirs and publications.
Boldly written on the sourvenirs is the caption: “FULafia a rare gemstone.”
