Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia, (FULafia), has urged the newly matriculated postgraduate students to promote the good image of the University, avoid negative behaviours and focus on their academic pursuits.
The 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony, which marked the 7th edition, saw a total of 961 postgraduate students officially admitted into the University.
The event was held at the Mallam Adamu Adamu Lecture Halls and Office Complex on the Permanent Site Campus of FULafia.
Addressing the students, the vice-chancellor stressed the importance of adhering to the core values of the institution, namely, integrity, innovation and excellence, encouraging students to prioritise their studies to achieve success.
Abdul Rahman highlighted the commitment of FULafia to fostering a culture of respect, inclusion and diversity, saying that every student would be valued and supported by the school regardless of their background or identity.
Abdul Rahman reminded them of their privilege to study at one of the most inclusive universities in Nigeria, cautioning them against laziness, truancy and engaging in any form of misconduct.
The University, he said, has zero-tolerance policy towards such undesirable behaviours.
He assured the students of robust security measures on both campuses, telling them to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
Abdul Rahman reminded the students of their pledge to be obedient to the constituted authorities and urged them to maintain good conduct throughout their time at FULafia.
Expressing his happiness for the students and their families, he said that the University was committed to ensuring the students success.
Recognising the high standards of the postgraduate programmes, Abdul Rahman commended the College of Postgraduate Studies for consistently exceeding expectations, outlining the University’s ambition to produce exceptional human resources that would contribute to national development.
He advised the students to engage in various academic and extracurricular activities, for personal and academic growth during their time at the University.
