Distinguished ladies and gentlemen
It is my singular honour and privilege to welcome you to yet another academic ritual of the University, an occasion organised to formally admit and inaugurate new students into Federal University Lafia academic activities for the year 2018/2019.
I congratulate all the admitted students for your worthy attainment. And to the guardians/parent, I congratulate you for this achievement of sending forth your wards to pursue their dreams and build themselves for a better future. Let me assure you that your choice of Federal University Lafia is a wise one, as this University is truly a place where dreams come true.
Federal University Lafia has made tremendous progress evident in the number of projects under construction and introduction of new academic programmes such as MBBS, Medical Laboratory Science, Anatomy, Physiology, Science Laboratory Technology, Library and Information Science, Geology, CRS, IRS, Arabic Studies, Nigerian Languages, Geography, Psychology, Business Education, Special and Science Education.
FULafia was established in 2011 and began its academic programmes in 2012 with clear mandate to increase access to, improve quality of education in Nigeria. Here, in FULafia, we believe that education should go beyond acquiring certificate to truly getting educated. This need informs our decision to offer compulsory computer literacy training, life skills and entrepreneurial skills to our students in order to make them self reliant.
In FULafia there is zero tolerance to examination misconduct, lectures are given as at when due with strict adherence to the university academic calendar. It would interest you to note that we reward excellent performance, which is why, each year, students who get the highest cumulative grade point aggregate (CGPA) are rewarded with scholarship that last throughout their period of stay here, provided they maintain a CGPA of not less than 4.0 at the end of each academic session.
The management has resolved to continue to provide efficient leadership and environment for learning and research to thrive. We are confident that the university will soon be relieved of challenges it faces in the area of roads on campus. We have recently embarked on the construction of new projects, notably, the university gatehouse, perimeter fence, multi-disciplinary laboratories, multipurpose lecture halls and office complex and 500-metre internal road.
In this vein, our appreciation goes to the Nasarawa State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Umar Tanko Al-Makura, for the 1.2km internal road constructed by the state on our permanent campus.
It’s also worthy to note that we have connected the two campuses of the university to the national grid for adequate power supply.
Consequently, my charge to you, our dear matriculating students, is simple. Apply yourselves to the reason you are sent here for. Face your studies and avoid negative influence and action. Academic advisers in your department and the councillors in the student affairs division are available to assist you in case of any difficulty you may face here.
I wish you a rewarding stay in Federal University Lafia.
