FULafia trains staff on mentorship, emotional intelligence

The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has organised a rare type of training programme centering on mentorship and emotional intelligence for senior staff of the University.
The event took place at the Faculty of Agriculture Mini Lecture Hall, Permanent Site Campus, Lafia.
Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul, said that the training underscored FULafia’s commitment to its staff development and building of their capacities.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ali Ishaq Shugaba, Abdul Rahman emphasised the importance of equipping staff with mentoring skills and emotional intelligence to enhance their performances.
In his remarks, the Registrar, Malam Nurudeen Abdu, expressed his gratitude to the vice-chancellor for supporting the training, stressing the need for senior staff to mentor younger colleagues to ensure succession.
He asked the participants to listen attentively to the resource persons and take home useful lessons.
Mrs. Becky Kajo, the Head of Staff Productivity and Promotion Unit (SPPU), welcomed participants, highlighting the training’s objective to develop staff.
She said that the training was a step down from an earlier training and designed for senior staff of the University on grade levels 12 and above.
In his presentation, Dr Abubakar H. Ahmed II, the Head of Quality Assurance of the University, stressed the I importance of mentoring and mentorship, emphasising their roles in developing workplace experience, productivity and commitment.
Another presenter, Mr. Mustapha Hanafi Idiaro, who spoke on emotional intelligence and managing stress at workplaces, focused on effective stress management, emotional impacts and personality traits.
Participants at the training engaged in discussions, sharing views and asked questions.
