Our goals
By the end of the program, the graduate is expected to demonstrate adequate knowledge, skills, and attitude in the following areas, in writing, verbally and in practice.
A. Knowledge of the:
I. Scientific principles basic to nursing care of individuals of all ages in a variety of physical and social settings.
2. Use of the nursing process.
3. Communication processes and group dynamics.
4. Processes of scientific enquiry.
5. Functions of members of the health team, their inter- relatedness and inter- dependency.
B. Skills in:
1. Identifying healthcare needs; planning and giving comprehensive nursing care to individuals of all ages in variety of settings.
2. Applying basic scientific and nursing theories, principles, and concepts in the practice of general nursing, midwifery, and public health.
3. Selecting appropriate nursing intervention(s) and performing technical skills with maximal safety.
4 Effective communications by organizing thought and expressing it in an easily comprehensible manner.
5. Planning and implementing health promotion activities.
6. Working cooperatively as a member of the health team by:
i. Sharing information.
ii. Accepting responsibility and limitation willingly.
iii. Participating in group activities.
iv. Utilizing standing orders and protocols in giving Primary Health Care
7. Applying appropriate evaluation tools and instituting desirable changes.
C. Attitudes that:
1. Recognize the essential worth of the individual through his/her interpersonal responses.
2. Appreciate the individuality of human nature and thus differences in individual behaviors, which could influence healthcare needs and care.
3. Show commitment to the nursing profession and function of the nurse.
4. Show sense of responsibility for self-direction and personal growth.
The students will need maximum direction, guidance and supervision in learning and care of patients during the first two years. In the 3rd and 4th years, he/she will gradually require less direct supervision in certain areas as he/she begins to use his/her initiative to request for guidance. He/she will gradually demonstrate the ability to evaluate own performance and self-competence. In the 5th (final) year, he/she will require minimal guidance in most areas but will be aware of limitations. He/she will seek learning opportunities independently and not only evaluate own performance and/or competence but will also be able to offer suggestions for improvement.

Admission Requirements
Candidates seeking admission into the department through pre-degree courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Federal University of Lafia must also satisfy the minimum entry requirements for the B.N.Sc. program of the University as stated below.
A. Entry into 100 Level
1. Candidate must pass the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with good grades in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English and meet the minimum cut off point set for the specific entry year.
2. Candidate must pass at Credit level or more in 5 subjects including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examination Council (NECO) or National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), at a maximum of two (2) sittings.
3. Students from the Department of Remedial Studies of Federal University of Lafia must have credits in five (5) 'O' Level subjects as stated in (3) above and pass Remedial Examinations and UTME as in 1 above.
B. Direct Entry into 200 Level
Candidates for Direct Entry into 200 Level are exempted from the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The candidates are in the following categories:
1. Candidates who have satisfied the Senior Secondary School Certificate requirement for admission into this University (i.e. five credits in "O" Level subjects as stated in "A" above, who have met the pass mark for the Principal Level Interim joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examination.
2. Candidates who are holders of the RN certificate of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, who also have passed at the required Credit level in the Senior School Certificate Examination of WAEC NECO or NABTEB its approved equivalent, in at least five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, at not more than two sittings.
3. First Degree holders of Federal University of Lafia or any other University approved by Senate of FULAFIA, in Sciences and/or health-related courses (e.g. Physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Public Health), who have passed the required Credit levels in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination of WAEC or NECO, or its approved equivalents in at least five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, and when there is vacancy to accept such.
Transfer to the B.N.Sc Program (Intra/lnter University)
Students will Not be accepted into the department on transfer.
Duration of the program: The B.N.Sc. program shall run for five (5) academic years for UTME and Remedial candidates; and four (4) years for Direct Entry candidates.

We offer degree programme in nursing BNSc-preparing nurses who are; competent care givers, clinical nurse specialist, nurse educators, managers, administrators and researchers. Our students will also take the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Exams which qualifies them as Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Midwives (RM), and also eligible for the West African Health Examination Board examinations that qualifies them as registered public health nurses.
We involve in research projects that impact nursing/midwifery at regional and national levels and advancing international. We disseminate our findings of research through publications and conferences.
We are also involved in offering community services in differs aspects of health, counselling, and education.
