Philosophy of the Faculty:
The philosophy of Faculty of Social Sciences mirrors that of the University. This is encapsulated in the ideals of:
(i) comprehensive education
(ii) local relevance of training and
(iii) functionality of research and community service.
‘Comprehensive education’ implies that education must be of the right quality and scope to impact positively on development; ‘local relevance of training’ underscores the need to make training relevant to the development needs of the host-region and the country at large; 'functionality of research and community service’ emphasizes the need to ensure that such activities yield impactful outcomes capable of solving societal problems. In line with the organizational philosophy of FULafia, the Faculty is committed to the pursuit of quality education, research and development. These tenets are encapsulated in the tripartite motto of the University: Integrity, Innovation and Excellence.

Welcome Address
| It is my privilege to welcome you to the site of Faculty of Social Sciences, Federal University of Lafia. I am honored to lead this faculty which is committed to integrity, innovation, and excellence.
Our faculty has a longstanding reputation for upholding the highest ethical standards. Integrity is paramount to us in both our academic and administrative practices. We believe that honesty, transparency, and accountability are the foundations of impactful research, effective teaching and learning, and ethical leadership. We reaffirm our commitment to modeling integrity through open communication, responsible conduct, and service beyond self-interest. Innovation is also key to advancing knowledge and solving complex social challenges. Our nine Departments – Economics, Library and Information Science, Mass Communication, Sociology, Social Work, Geography, Political Science, Criminology and Security Studies, and Psychology – are deeply invested in pioneering new frameworks, methodologies, and technologies to drive progress. We empower our faculty and students to think creatively, challenge assumptions, and develop solutions that can create meaningful change in Nigeria and the world over. Finally, we strive for excellence in all aspects of our mission. From improving student support services to fostering cutting-edge research, we aim to set the standard for social sciences education. We will continue investing in recruiting and retaining leading academics, modernizing our infrastructure and facilities, and providing enriching learning opportunities outside the classroom.
