Enforce rules to guarantee peace, order, emir of Lafia tells Abdul Rahman
The Emir of Lafia and Chairman of Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, Justice Sidi Mohammed Bage, JSC (rtd), has called on the authorities of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to enforce rules governing conduct of activities of staff and students in the institution.
According to the emir, it is only through the respect for rules and regulations that communities can excel, calling on the authorities to do all within their powers to develop the University.
The emir, who spoke when the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, visited him in continuation of his visit to royal fathers in the state, said that when rules are properly set and followed, they provide a stable environment and human co-existence in a community, resulting in peace and order.
The emir said: “To live and function in a society, we must have rules and breaking these rules must have consequences.”
He called on staff of the University to play strictly by the rules to avoid getting caught on the wrong side.
Earlier, in his speech, Abdul Rahman said he visited the emir to inform him of the new direction of the University, saying that respect for the law now constituted a prime objective.
He appealed to the emir to help the University enforce its rules by turning deaf ears to those who may come running to the palace to help them dodge justice.
Abdul Rahman said: “Laws are rules that bind staff and students of the University community and direct our collective affairs, universities cannot be well governed without laws.”
The vice-chancellor was accompanied on his visit to the emir by the deputy vice-chancellor, Prof. Idris Amali, registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, bursar, Daniel Wilson, librarian, Dr. Abiodun Olaide Iyoro, Prof. Victor Dugga, Prof. Al-Bishak, Dr. M.I Imam and other staff.
Highlight of the visit was the exchange of kola nuts between the emir and vice-chancellor.
