FULafia ACTU conducts anti-corruption sensitisation workshop for staff

The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), recently, organised a one-day sensitisation workshop aimed at promoting integrity and zero tolerance for corruption.
The workshop, titled: “Corruption and Integrity: A Broad Context of Moral Principles in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria,” sought to educate staff on the negative impacts of corrupt practices.
The event was held at the MIS Multi-purpose Hall, Permanent Site Campus of the University.
Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia , Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, who expressed gratitude to ACTU for organising the programme, emphasised the importance of maintaining integrity in operations at the institution.
Abdul Rahman highlighted the core value of integrity at FULafia, acknowledging the challenges individuals face in upholding it.
He reaffirmed his commitment to combating corruption within the University, urging the ACTU to monitor activities including teaching, examinations, contract awards, admissions and employment.
The Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), commended FULafia for organising the workshop, emphasising the crucial role of ACTU in promoting ethical standards within academic setting.
Represented by Mr. Tiku Menge, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for the Benue State, Aliyu underscored the significance of instilling the value of integrity among universities’ staff and students to foster culture of transparency and good governance.
During the event, resource persons, including Professor Samaila Dakyes and Dr. Bello Dauda delivered papers on corruption, integrity and the role of moral principles in tertiary institutions, shedding light on the detrimental effects of corrupt practices on Nigeria’s development.
The Chairman of FULafia ACTU, Professor Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan, commended the vice-chancellor for his commitment to accountability and transparency, praising the University’s efforts in the fight against corruption.
He also acknowledged the support provided to ACTU by the Management in conducting its activities in accordance with the ICPC’s regulations.
The workshop climaxed with the presentation of award to the vice-chancellor by the ICPC chairman, symbolising the collaborative efforts between the ICPC and FULafia in advancing integrity and combating corruption.
