Abdul Rahman: Be humble, pride will not get you anywhere
By Abubakar Ibrahim & Yahaya Ahmed
As part of the engagement process he initiated since his assumption of office in February, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has, recently, visited the faculties of arts and science, where he said to the lecturers: “Be humble, pride will not get you anywhere.”
He, therefore, advised the lecturers to shun materialism and unhealthy academic rivalry which could give birth to arrogance misplacement of academic values.
Abdul Rahman urged the lecturers to pay more attention to their profession and ignore negative attitudes that could truncate their progression.
Emphasising the benefit of lecturers working together for the benefit of the University, the vice-chancellor appealed to them to collaborate, saying that “progress of one is the progress of all and FULafia.”
He warned against any form of sabotage in the University, explaining that “only networking brings success in a university.”
According to the vice-chancellor, workers should realise the fact that no one is greater than the University, calling on all to join hands to make FULafia one of the best universities in Africa.
He vowed to lead a transparent administration, saying that through consultation, team work and commitment, the University will move forward.
The vice-chancellor while commending the faculties’ staff for their efforts during the last sanitation exercise, revealed that the neatness of the University was greatly appreciated by the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team members who recently visited FULafia for accreditation exercises.
In his votes of thanks, the deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Muhammad Tanko Aliyu, thanked the vice-chancellor for introducing initiatives designed to place the University on a higher pedestal.
Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Nasirudeen Baba, praised the vice-chancellor for what he described as his collective style of administration, promising that the lecturers would key into the management blueprint of Abdul Rahman with a view to developing FULafia.
Among those who attended the event were the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda; Bursar, Mr. Wilson Daniel; University Liberian, Dr. Abiodun Iyoro; heads of departments, directors and other faculty staff.
