Sanitation: V-C plans to reward staff, students
By Paulinus Auta
The Vice-Chancellor Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has set in motion a method of identifying and rewarding best performing staff, students, faculties, departments and units of the University during the monthly sanitation exercise in the institution.
The vice-chancellor announced this plan when he hosted the members of the Campus Sanitation and Beautification Committee (CSBC) at the Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus, FULafia.
The meeting was called by Abdul Rahman to commend the CSBC members for their efforts in making the sanitation exercise an established and successful practice in the University.
He called on the members of the committee not to relent in the task of ensuring that the University campuses remain clean at all times.
Professor Abdul Rahman said he was impressed with the level of commitment exhibited by some members of staff and students when he undertook an inspection tour of some faculties and departments during the last exercise.
He said the University management and the CSBS would work out modalities for rewarding those who have shown extra-ordinary commitment to the sanitation exercise.
The vice-chancellor said he would continue to provide support for the success of the committee’s assignments.
He, therefore, called on members of the University community to embrace the sanitation exercise which, he pointed out, would engender, sustain and promote healthy workforce, better teaching and learning environment.
He said that poor sanitation “is associated with transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, among many others transmittable diseases.”
