FULafia V-C emphasises importance of leadership training

Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), said that leadership training is crucial for equipping aspiring and existing leaders with essential skills to succeed.
Abdul Rahman spoke during a one-day special training on Effective Leadership for new Deans and Deputy Deans,” held at the New Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus, Lafia.
He highlighted the benefits of leadership training to include informed decision-making, good communication skills, strategic planning, adaptability, personal development and acquisition of organisational skills.
“It’s not just about moulding individuals into leaders, it’s about creating a collaborative, efficient and innovative work environment where everyone is motivated to achieve their best,” he said.
The vice-chancellor tasked the participants to take active part in the training and take home useful lessons.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs Becky Kadjo, the Head of the Staff Productivity and Promotion Unit (SPPU), said that the training was organised in conjunction with the Professorial Sub-Committee of the Academic Monitoring Team to equip deans and deputy deans with leadership qualities for effective day-to-day management.
Represented by Agyege Dan-Asabe Osewiyo, Kadjo expressed her gratitude to the vice-chancellor for facilitating hosting of the training.
The topics covered included strategic plan for the faculty, academic and faculty management, ethical and inclusive decision-making for effective leadership, financial and resource management, stakeholder engagement and communication, alumni relations and faculty branding, and fundraising and external funding opportunities
The resource persons were Professor Aleruchi Chuku (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs), Professor Ali Is’haq Shugaba (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration), Prof Samaila Dakyes (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships), Prof Ilemona Adofu, (Director, Academic Planning), Prof. Ibrahim Awwal and Dr Fatima Adis Adamude, (Acting Director, Linkages and Advancements).
