FULafia SPPU holds leadership training for new deans, directors, deputy directors

The Staff Productivity and Promotion Unit (SPPU) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has organised a one-day leadership training for new deans, directors and their deputies to enhance their productivity.
The training was organised to equip and prepare the new deans, directors and deputy directors as they get set to perform their duties.
The theme of the training was: “Effective Leadership Skills for University Management.”
The event was held at the MIS Multi-purpose Hall, Permanent Site Campus.
Declaring the event opened, the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, said that the training was put in place to train the new deans, directors and their deputies on how to handle activities of their departments effectively.
Abdul Rahman, while encouraging the participants to continue to strive for excellence in their leadership roles, urged them to take advantage of the training and benefit maximally.
He disclosed that the next crop of leaders would be trained by the FULafia Centre for Leadership Studies.
He said: “It is not just about gaining positions, it is also about making impact to add value to others and to the system.”
He reiterated the University’s commitment to providing training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their capacities and contribute to the overall success of the institution.
Welcoming participants to the programme, the head of SPPU, Mrs Becky Kajo, thanked the vice-chancellor for supporting the unit to organise the training successfully.
Participants at the event included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ishaq Ali Shugaba, and many others who, all, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in leadership and management skills.
They pledged to implement the strategies and techniques learnt during the training to improve productivity and efficiency in their respective roles.
During the training, various topics were covered such as ‘credibility in leadership’ delivered by the vice-chancellor and ‘soft skills for the 21st century leaders’ by Prof. prof Josephine Odey.
The training was climaxed with participation engaging in group discussions and practical exercises to enhance their leadership skills.
