FULafia collaborates with host communities to improve living conditions of students

The Management of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has expressed its readiness to work with stakeholders to improve living conditions of students residing off-campus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, stated that when he led other Management team members of the University to a town hall meeting with people from the neighbouring communities of the University.

The meeting, the vice-chancellor said, was organised with a view to addressing some of the critical issues affecting students of the institution resident in the five communities of Mararraba, Gandu, Gemare, Bukan Kwato and Akunza.

The vice-chancellor, who said that he had earlier led members of his team on an inspection tour of some students’ accommodations in the communities, saying that “the living conditions of the students need urgent intervention.”

He, specifically, described the porousness, lack of water and hygiene of the hostels as deplorable.

He promised to constitute a committee to interface with stakeholders in the communities to identify the challenges and develop strategies on how to address them.

Prof. Abdul Rahman appeal to the stakeholders to treat the students with love, compassion, fear of God and ensure the safety of their lives and property.

In their separate contributions, the representatives of the various communities expressed their gratitude to the vice-chancellor for creating time to meet with them, assuring him of their support to his administration.

They called on him to consider members of the communities in, especially, the area of employment, saying that they gave up their farmlands to the government for the University to be established.

Those who attended the meeting included, the Deputy Vice-chancellor of FULafia, Prof. Idris Amali, Registrar, Mr. Nuradeen Abdu, and Director of Works, Engr. Zakari Ayitogo.

Others were the communities chiefs, landlords, youth leaders and commanders of vigilantes’ groups from Mararraba, Gandu, Gemare, Bukan Kwato and Akunza.
