The Chairman of the Lafia Unity Family in the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Mr. Musa Dahiru, has revealed the resolve of his members to make the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, the most successful in the institution’s history.
The Lafia Unity Family is an umbrella association of indigenes of Lafia LGA working in FULafia.
Musa made known the resolve of the members when he led some of them on a courtesy visit to the vice-chancellor at his office, recently.

Musa told the vice-chancellor that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate him for his appointment as the third substantive vice-chancellor of FULafia and discuss ways of strengthening the already existing cordial relationship between his association and the University.
He maintained that as the indigenes of Lafia, the host community of the University, they “have a very important role to play in the development process of the institution, explaining that the forum has since directed its members to go on advocacy visits to inform and educate major stakeholders of Lafia on the development and transformation agenda of Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman.

The chairman, who pledged their continued support to the development of FULafia, also extolled the vice-chancellor for initiating numerous programmes to reposition the University.
He prayed to God to not only answer the dreams of the vice-chancellor of making FULafia the fifth best University in Africa but to make it the best in the continent.
Musa commended Abdul Rahman for embarking on his recent tours to palaces of traditional rulers in the state, describing the moves as “a one that will bridge the gap” between the communities and FULafia.

He, however, appealed to the vice-chancellor to provide more jobs and admission opportunities for the indigenes of the host community.
Receiving members of the association, the vice-chancellor, emotionally, said: “My relationship with Lafia people is a strong one.”
He urged them to “protect, promote the interest of the University and be fair to all staff who are not from Lafia.”
He advised them not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction, pointing out that the success of FULafia is their own success.
He assured them of the university’s support to the association, promising to address some of their requests.
Abdul Rahman challenged them to take their advocacy to all corners of Lafia with a view to taking the University to an enviable height.

Among the members who accompanied the chairman on the visit included Dr Hudu Sambo, Director, Centre for Continued Education, Dr Muhammed Aliyu Tanko Baitullah, Head of Department of Islamic Studies, Dr Musa Dalhatu, Head of Department of Political Science, Shafi’u Abdullahi Liman and Zakari Shu’abu of the SBRS-FULafia.
