Embrace CCMAS for dev, says FULafia V-C

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, said that the Core Curriculum Maximum Academic Standards (CCMAS) has now become one of the mainstays of universities in Nigeria.
The Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) are designed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the education and training of undergraduate students wishing to obtain first degrees in the different areas of administration and management science in the Nigerian university system.
The CCMAS also expanded BMAS from 12 to 17 disciplines to reposition the system to reflect the realities of the 21st century.
The 17 disciplines are administration and management, agriculture, allied health sciences, architecture, arts, basic medical sciences, communication and media studies, computing and education.
Addressing academic staff, recently, during a three-day step-down training, Professor Abdul Rahman said that FULafia had no option but to operationalise the CCMAS, adding that necessity informed the training.
The training event took place at the Mallam Adamu Adamu Lecture Hall and Office Complex, Permanent Site Campus.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Professor Usman Samaila Dakyes, described the CCMAS as a new development, calling on the lecturers to accept it wholeheartedly.
Declaring the programme open, Professor Abdul Rahman advised them to put into practice the knowledge acquired from the training into practice.
In her welcome remarks, the Senior Deputy Registrar, and Head, Staff Productivity and Promotion Unit (SPPU), Mrs Helen Bello, thanked the Management for organising the programme for capacity building of academic staff of the University.
She urged them to make use of the training as it would boost their knowledge.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Aleruchi Chuku, presented papers on different topics with a view to helping lecturers to equip graduates with the 21st Century wherewithal of surviving.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Ilemona Adofu, thanked the Management for supporting his directorate and the participants for showing their enthusiasm during the training organised to achieve the goals of the newly introduced CCMAS by NUC.
