Your work promotes our University’s image FULafia — V-C tells computing students

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has applauded the students of the Faculty of Computing for coming out best at the just concluded Nigeria Association of Computing Students of Nigeria (NACOS), software and innovations summit.
Abdul Rahman said that the award would go a long way to promote the good image of FULafia.
Abdul Rahman spoke when he received the students who were led to his office by the dean of the faculty, Dr. Joshua Abah.
The vice-chancellor, who thanked the dean for properly guiding his students, said that his priorities were the welfare and safety of students “because they are the major stakeholders of the University.”
While assuring them of his administration’s commitment to providing conducive learning environment, he promised to build a befitting structure for the faculty.
He said: “The Management of the University is here to serve you. We are not here to serve those who are not ready to add value to this university.”
Abdul Rahman advised students to use the University’s core values of integrity, innovation and excellence as their guiding principles, urging them to be good ambassadors of the University wherever they found themselves.
“We want our students to develop themselves so that they can achieve both credentials and potentials on graduation,” Abdul Rahman stated.
Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Dr. Joshua Abah, said that the award was achieved in line with the objectives of the faculty and the dreams of the vice-chancellor of making the University the fifth best in Africa.
He recalled that it was not the first time FULafia has been awarded for its excellence, pointing out that the faculty came out victorious in previous competitions.
In his remarks, the President of NACOS, FULafia Chapter, Apeh Enejo, appreciated the Management for its sponsorship to participate in the competition.
He praised the vice- chancellor, saying: “You are truly a vice-chancellor that always have his students at heart.”
The Director of Software Technology, FULafia, Mr. Ahmed Ojo, in his speech, highlighted some innovations spearheaded by the students, saying that they would be useful for the running of the University system.
Ojo pointed out that “the use of the Cyber Security Sensitisation (CSS) would curb cyber crimes and reduce social vices.”
The director observed that the introduction of e-voting platform in the University would help in conducting stress-free elections and encourage stakeholders of the University to freely exercise their voting right.
He said: “The uniqueness of this e-voting platform is its operation in both offline and online for the maintenance of crowd.”
Some of the senior officers present at the event included the Director, School of Basic and Remedial Studies, Prof. Matthew Aremu, and Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Musa Bashir Agbawu.
