FULafia SRC donates street light to communities

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), recently, donated solar powered security light to some areas around the University to shore up security in the areas.

To witness the event was the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, who thanked the SRC for, specifically, donating the lights in areas where students of FULafia reside.

During the unveiling of the project, which took place at the Take-Off Site Campus of the University, the vice-chancellor expressed his appreciation, acknowledging the positive impact it would have on the lives of not just the students but all the inhabitants of the benefiting communities.

Represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Abdulrazaq Baba Abdulrahman, Abdul Rahman lauded the SRC’s initiative in contributing to the security efforts of the University.

He emphasised the importance of securing the environments where students and staff live and the entire University host communities.

He stressed the significance of students being vigilant and taking responsibility of their surroundings, encouraging them to continue the effort to keep FULafia and its environments safe.

The SRC President, Comrade Salisu Abdullahi Maiyaki, said that the initiative of the SRC was in line with the University’s security measures.

He added that the project was part of his administration’s commitment to promote safety and security of lives and properties of students living in off campus, with a view to making the communities better places to live in.

Maiyaki stated that the solar powered street lights, 45 in total, would be installed in some strategic places including Mararraba, Akunza, Bukan Kwato, Gandu and around the Paradise Hotel.

The event was attended by the Universitys’ Security Consultant, Col. Balarabe Jibrin (rtd), Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Dlama Joseph Zira, Head of Directorate of Environmental Safety, Ibrahim Mijinyawa, staff of the Student Affairs Division and residents of the benefiting communities.
