The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has urged the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to closely work with the University to develop projects to benefit students and workers.
The Vice-Chancellor made his call at the occasion of the inauguration of the FULafia Public Private Partnership (PPP) committee by some officials of the ICRC.
The event took place, recently, at the University Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus, in Lafia.
The ICRC was established in 2008 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to regulate PPP (public private partnership) with the aim of addressing Nigeria’s physical infrastructure deficit which hampers economic development.
The vice-chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idris O.O. Amali, thanked the ICRC officials for coming for the inauguration, soliciting support of the commission to enable FULafia PPP Unit perform its functions well.
Abdul Rahman assured the commission that the University would work within the limits, rules and regulations established by the ICRC.
While inaugurating FULafia PPP Unit, the Director-General of the ICRC, Mr. J.A Michael Ohiani, appreciated FULafia’s management for adopting the PPP procurement methodology for expanding and developing the infrastructure in the University.
The director-general, represented by the Head of Social Infrastructure Unit, ICRC, Mr. Sola Ogunsola, said that the commission is a Federal Government entity established to assist the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s), address Nigeria’s physical infrastructure deficit and provide strategies for the government boost its revenues.
He called on the management of the University to monitor compliance with the terms and conditions of the PPP agreement and ensure efficient execution of any concession agreement or contract entered into by the University.
“Ensure compliance with the provisions of the ICRC Act,” he further warned, urging the University to constitute a project monitoring committee, adequately fund the PPP Unit and regularly train staff.
The FULafia PPP Unit, headed by Mr Ado Abubakar of the Audi Unit, has Mr. Benjamin Adesoba of the Procurement Unit, Arc. Muntasir Sani, Physical Planning Unit, Barr. George Akulo, Legal Unit, and Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed.
The representative of the director-general was accompanied to FULafia by Mr. Aminu Salihu and Mr. Chinedu Nwgwe of the ICRC Infrastructure Unit.
Among the FULafia staff at the event were the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, Bursar, Mr. Wilson Daniel, the Librarian, Dr. Abiodun Iyoro, Prof. Malam Al-Bishak, Dr. Adofu Ilemona, Dr. Usman Ibrahim, CSO Wing Commander Umar Muhammed Awe (rtd), Mr. Daniel Yakmut.
