The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called on staff to prioritise their career development.
Abdul Rahman made the call during an interactive session with staff of the FULafia Liaison Office in Abuja, recently.
He said that he was in the liaison office to introduce to staff the newly appointed Registrar of the University, Nuradeen Abdu, and interact, educate and sensitise them on his vision of making the University the fifth best in Africa.
Calling on the staff to key into the vision of his administration, Abdul Rahman said that the University Management had observed that some of the staff at the liaison office do not want to be posted to other units and departments.
Advising the staff to accept posting elsewhere, he warned that such attitude would not improve their career progression in the system.
He called on staff to constantly improve their knowledge, skills and competencies, listing some of the advantages of working in many departments to include broader experience and versatility.
The vice-chancellor said “that as the University grows, it would continue to review its policies on promotions, appointments, urging staff to know more about the system in which they work in.
“You must always think of how to progress in your careers,” he said.
He said that in the future, only those with requisite skills and experience can be assigned roles and responsibilities.
The vice-chancellor said that the University has designed and commenced the implementation of a comprehensive training programme for all categories of staff, saying that the head of staff productivity promotion unit of the University would soon organise trainings for the staff in Abuja.
In his remarks, the Registrar, Nuradeen Abdu, appreciated the vice-chancellor for making it possible for the interaction to hold, saying that enabled him to familiarise himself with the staff of the liaison office and get first-hand information about happenings in the unit.
He called on the staff to remain committed to their duties and responsibilities, promising to support them at all times.
Abdu thanked the vice-chancellor for saying that a training programme would be organised for the staff in Abuja soon.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Head, FULafia Liaison Office, Abuja, Ann Okorafo, stated that the interaction was the first of its kind since the establishment of the University.
She expressed her gratitude to the vice-chancellor for the visit, saying that the staff would redouble their efforts in the discharge of their responsibilities.
