The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone C, has applaud the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, for the numerous achievements his administration has recorded.

Specifically, the union praised the harmonious working relationship existing between the staff Students' Representative Council (SRC) as commendable.

The union, speaking through its Coordinator, Comrade Abah O. Abah, who led other members of the association from Zone C on a courtesy visit to Abdul Rahman, said that FULafia "is a pacesetter in particularly the areas of peaceful coexistence, good leadership and cleanliness."

He said: "I feel elated to be in the fastest growing and well governed University in Nigeria."

He, however, pleaded with the management of FULafia to "create an enabling environment for students' leadership to emerge through electorial process, and not the present system of nomination by the management."

According to him, elected leaders would command more respect and authority from students if they "are to emerge through the ballot."

Responding, Professor Abdul Raman, gave assurance to the NANS of his continued support to the union.

He advised the association to formulate policies and organise workshops to alleviate some of the problems facing students and institutions of learning such as examination malpractice, cultism and drugs abuse.

He promised to look into the issue of electing students leaders in FULafia, saying that "everything worth doing to make life better for our students will be done."

He called on particularly the students of FULafia to be security concious and report any cases of suspicious activities and persons to the appropriate authorities.

Those who attended the event together with Abdul Rahman included the Registrar, Mamuda, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Amali, Bursar, Wilson and Librarian, Iyoro.

In his vote of thanks, Amali advised the students to stand on truth at all times with a view to making Nigeria a great country again.

He said: "The task of restoring the dignity and greatness of this country lies on shoulders of youths and this task must be accomplished by you."

The meeting ended with a presentation of a plaque by NANS' leaders to Professor Rahman in recognition of his many significant contributions to education, humanity and support for Nigerian students.
