The Andoma of Doma, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliyu Ahmadu Oga Onawo, has called on the Management and principal staff of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to give maximum cooperation to Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor, for the University to develop.

Andoma spoke when Abdul Rahman presented to him in his palace, in Doma, the newly appointed Registrar of FULafia, Nuradeen Abdu.

He said that "Abdul Rahman is a kind of leader that does things according to due process," adding: "Others wouldn't have bothered bringing the registrar to the palace."

He commended the vice-chancellor "for his foresight and wisdom, saying that other leaders should emulate his simplicity and practices.

The traditional ruler said he believed that Abdul Rahman would record successes that would be hard for others after him to attain.

While congratulating the newly appointed registrar, the emir urged him and other management staff to support Abdul Rahman to enable the University progress to the points where "even the first generation universities have not reached."

He appealed to the vice-chancellor to initiate policies to help indigent applicants gain admission to FULafia.

He lamented that some brilliant students in rural areas find it difficult to pass computer-based JAMB examinations because they could not operate computers.

He said: "There's a general problem because of lack of exposure. Most of our schools don't have computers, even if they do, they don't have computer instructors."

The royal father called on the education authorities to initiate a policy that could make it possible for students who undertake remedial courses to gain admission into degree programme in university without going through the JAMB examinations.

He appealed that the proposed policy, when in place, should be enjoyed at the post-graduate and advanced diploma levels by civil servants in the state who seek to further their education without having to go through JAMB scrutiny.

Earlier, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman said that he led other principal officers of the University to formally introduce to the Andoma of Doma, the newly appointed Registrar of FULafia, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, and to seek the royal father's blessings.

Those who accompanied the vice-chancellor on the visit, other than registrar, were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idris O.O. Amali, Bursar, Mr. Wilson Daniel and University Librarian, Dr. Abiodun Iyoro.
