The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has called on staff of the University to demonstrate professionalism and care for students at all times.

The vice-chancellor made the call when he declared open a two-day training for staff of the Students Affairs Division of the University.

Represented by Prof. Sama’ila Dakyes, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design, the vice-chancellor appealed, especially, to hostel staff who are directly responsible for caring for students on campus, to discharge their responsibilities professionally at all times. 

He said: “The society has placed on our shoulders the burden to care for the students.”

Abdul Rahman thanked the Head of the Staff Productivity Promotion Unit for carefully choosing the resource persons for the programme, calling on the participants to take advantage of the training to acquire knowledge and skills required to successfully manage staff, students related crises and buildings. 

He, also, urged them to acquire knowledge of how to prevent fire incident in hostel and where such occurs, manage it effectively.

In her welcome address, the Head of SPPU, Mrs. Helen Bello, thanked the vice-chancellor for approving funds for the exercise. 

She called on the participants to apply the knowledge they gained to the develop FULafia.

The two-day training focused on the fundamentals of records and information management, fire prevention and management in the hostel, crisis prevention and management skills in the students hostel, human relations skill in dealing with students (staff/students relationship), management of hostel facilities and effective record keeping.
