The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has bagged the Award of Best Sports Friendly Vice-Chancellor for the year 2022.

The award ceremony, organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, took place at the Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus, Federal University of Lafia.

Presenting the award to the vice-chancellor, Honourable Hamza Ibrahim Moyi, the Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development, described the vice-chancellor as a very respected, proactive, kind, humble and sociable personality, saying that the award was in recognition of his contributions to sports development in the University, in particular, and Nasarawa State, in general. 

While recalling the approval given by the vice-chancellor for the use of the FULafia sporting facilities for the Engr. A. A. Sule Inter-Security Football Cup 2022, and the Novelty Match between Engr. A. A. Sule team and the legislators in Nasarawa State, Moyi said that the gestures demonstrated the vice-chancellor's commitment to sustaining the relationship between the University and Nasarawa State Government. 

Moyi commended the efforts of the vice-chancellor in the area of provision of sports facilities and equipment in the University. 

He expressed gratitude to the Management team members of the University for supporting the vice-chancellor in running the affairs of the institution. 

The senior special assistant said his office would continue to boost sports activities in both the state and the University.

In his speech, the vice-chancellor thanked Moyi and members of his delegation for recognising his modest contributions to the development of the society, saying that the award was not just for him but for the entire University community.

He appreciated Moyi for partnering with the University, saying that the “University is always ready to collaborate with stakeholders for the development of FULafia.

Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman used the occasion of the award ceremony to appreciate His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, for his interest and commitment to the development of FULafia, describing him as a special stakeholder of the University.

Abdul Rahman expressed the gratitude of the University to the governor for the role he played in ensuring the siting of the FULafia University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, saying "the governor was at the forefront in the struggle for the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital to be sited here in Lafia.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation of sport wears to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, and the Registrar, Malam Nuradeen Abdu

Other principal officers present at the award ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor FuLafia, Prof. Idris O. O. Amali, the University Bursar, Mr. Daniel Wilson, and the University Librarian, Dr. Abiodun Iyoro.
