The Registrar, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Mr Nuradeen Abdu, has charged the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), FULafia Branch, to redouble its efforts in the areas of capacity building, training and development of its members.

According to Abdu, "it is only through training and re-training that staff will improve their professional and administrative skills."

Mr. Abdu gave the charge, recently, during the step-down conference in Adamu Adamu Hall.

The step-down conference was consequent to the 2021 National Conference of ANUPA in Abuja.

The event has the theme: “Crisis, Collaboration and the Future of higher education” 

Declaring the event open, the registrar expressed his gratitude to ANUPA for organising a step-down for the benefit of those who did not attend the conference in Abuja, saying: “I am highly delighted to be part of this exercise where knowledge is being shared. The University would be the greatest beneficiary of the knowledge gained by staff if they properly utilise such knowledge."

He said that he was happy that the exercise took place within the few weeks he assumed office as the registrar of the University.

Abdu reminded participants that “as professional administrators, we should know that our roles, ethics and attitude to work matter because it will help the University to grow," adding: "We must ensure that in conducting our work, we strictly abide by rules and regulations of the University”.

The registrar described ANUPA as a major stakeholder in the university system, advising the participants to take advantage of the conference and learn from the experience of the resource persons.

In his welcome address, the chairman of ANUPA, FULafia Chapter, Mr. Simeon Onah, expressed his gratitude to the the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, for sponsoring 20 members of the association to Abuja for the recently held 2021 Annual General Meeting/Conference.

He thanked the registrar for his presence at the step-down conference.

In her remarks, the Head, Staff Productivity and Promotion Unit of the University, Mrs. Helen Bello, said that the step-down conference was in line with the vice-chancellor's policy on capacity building for all categories of staff in the University.

She thanked the presenters for their effort in putting the works together for the success of the conference. 

Some of the topics presented at the event included "Leading through Uncertainties, by Kajo Becky Mnena, "Crisis of Leadership Succession: Challenges of Excellence in Nigerian Universities” by Likita, Bahago Sainatu, "Insights into the Fiscal Responsibility Act and Financial Discipline (Prudent Management of Resources) in Nigerian Universities," by Garba, Amina and "The Future of High Education in Nigeria: The place of the Professional Administrator" presented by Hinga Andrew Terungwa.
