|By Amarachi Okam

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has stated that he would work with the National Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and the Town Planning Registration Council (TOPREC) to review the alterations made in the original masterplan of FULafia.

Receiving the national executives of NITP and TOPREC, led by the National President of NITP, TPL Olatoyin Ayinde (FNITP), on a courtesy call at his office, the vice-chancellor said that the partnership would usher in a roadmap for future development of FULafia in a sustainable fashion.

He told members of the NITP and TOPREC that his administration understood the importance of physical planning for development, stating his preparedness to encourage critical stakeholders in the University to appreciate the value of having a good physically planned organisation.

He said: "Without proper planning, you cannot be consistent and uniformity is what brings beauty to the system."

The vice-chancellor informed the planners that, already, the University has established its faculty of environmental studies as well as the department of urban and regional planning, calling on the town planners to work with them.

"Be ready to create a document that will be called a visionary document that will guide social and physical development in the university, he urged.”

In his address earlier, the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, TPL Olatoyin Ayinde, said that the aim of their visit was to highlight the need for correction of abnormalities in physical planning, calling for collaboration among government, stakeholders and town planners.
