News and Updates

The Vice-chancellor, Federal University Lafia (FULafia) Professor Muhammad Sanusi Liman, has called for collaboration between Nigerians and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to engender a clean and healthy environment.

Liman stated this when the Director-General of NESREA, Professor Aliyu Jauro, recently paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Lafia.

While commending the efforts NESREA for marking this year’s World Environmental Day in FULafia, recently, Liman said the gesture would help in raising awareness on the need to stop the practice of depletion environment.

Liman said: “I commend NESREA for addressing the issues of environmental degradation. I, particularly, commend NESREA for encouraging the practice of tree planting and management of wastes in communities. This is a conscious effort to combat environmental degradation in the country.”

Liman assured NESREA boss of his readiness to mobilize the university community to cooperate NESREA to safeguard the environment, adding that students, especially, would be equipped with knowledge on how best to protect the environment.

Earlier, Jauro said they were at the university to seek cooperation with the university on issues relating to the environmental laws, compliance and the need to ensure environmental sustainability within and outside the university community.

He said that collaboration with academics, especially in environment-related courses such as geology and geography would go a long way in achieving the objectives of NESREA.

Shedding more light on the operations of his organisation, Jauro said that “the agency is charged with the responsibility to enforce, regulate and control natural and human impact on the environment, adding that the “rationale for enacting the environmental law is to protect the environment for the benefit of humanity.”

NESREA officials who accompanied Jauro to FULafia included Mrs. Miranda Amacheree, Dutse Salka, Abdussalam Isa Director, Larry Ineka, Sambo Abubakar and Mrs. Toroni Abosede, the coordinator of NESREA in Nasarawa State.
