FULafia attends universities' athletes workshop

The students of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) were among many others from universities in the North-Central Zone who participated in the just concluded Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP).

The OVEP was held in the Nile University, in Abuja, between September 29th and October 2, 2021. 

The programme was organised by the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC)/Nigeria University Games under the Umbrella of Olympic Value Education Programme (OVEP).

In a statement made available to the FULafia Bulletin, the four-day workshop designed to inspire and equip universities' athletes for national and international sports, featured lectures, film shows, games and tug of war.

Athletes from FULafia participated in sporting events that included badminton, table tennis, volleyball, and football. 

At the end of the event, the statement said that Kauna Danjuma, from FULafia, was elected as the General Team Captain (GTC) with her group's anthem adopted as the overall OVEP anthem at the event.

The statement added that another athlete from FULafia, Kauna Danjuma, is being considered by organisers of the event to attend a similar programme overseas.

Commenting on performance of the FULafia team, the director of Sports in the University, Mr Simeon Onah, said that the overall performance of FULafia students was impressive.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, for given the students a chance to shine and develop their sporting skills.

In their seperate comments, the students lauded the vice-chancellor for given them the opportunity to interact with their peers from other universities and build bridges of friendship.

They promised to put in their best at any universities' games they may be privileged to represent FULafia in the future.

Other universities that attended the workshop included ABU, Zaria; Ibrahim Banbangida University, Lapai; Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil; University of Agriculture, Makurdi; University of Jos and the host, Nile University, Abuja.
