The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has commenced what he terms as an interactive session with the faculties, directorates and departments of the University.

Among those who have interacted with the vice-chancellor included the staff from the SERVICOM Directorate, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, Students Integrity Club (SIC), faculties of science, agriculture, social sciences and arts.

The SIC, established by Abdul Rahman soon after he became the vice-chancellor, is membered by students of FULafia who, as the name of the club has implied, are trained to be of good character.

However, regardless of the place that the vice-chancellor has visited, his message was the same to the audience – do your work diligently and uphold the core values of FULafia, namely, integrity, innovation and excellence.  

Stating the main purpose of the interactive session, Abdul Rahman said that he has a responsibility to create an avenue through which members of staff can safely express their concerns, problems and be listened to.

“I must take the trouble to know the capabilities and motivations of our staff so that their work will be meaningful and satisfying,” he said.

Abdul Rahman urged staff to build a sustainable academic culture, embrace good mentoring schemes, enhance performance of academic research and improve on their individual quality to succeed.

Abdul Rahman said: "It is my responsibility to develop, strategies that will guide staff towards actualisation of my blueprint to achieve our set objectives.”

He warned that "any member of staff that is not committed to his responsibility we shall show him a way out."

He urged staff to uphold the three management instruments of planning, policy and committee system, disclosing that based on his assessment, he has achieved 60 per cent success in the implementation of of his blueprint.

While calling on staff to be innovative and creative, especially in the area of resources mobilisation, saying that the Management would not renege on its promise of providing conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

In their separate remarks, the deans of faculties of agriculture, science, social sciences, arts, heads of directorates of SERVICOM, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, Students Integrity Club, respectively, commended the vice-chancellor for his exceptional leadership style and determination to transform FULafia in the face of enormous challenges resources.

They promised to support the vice-chancellor to actualise his dream of taking FULafia to greater hights.
